SmartRetur’s solutions are in line with the regulations shaping the future of transport and packaging in Europe. Through our system for the collection, repair, and circulation of pallets, we help both ourselves and our customers meet new EU requirements in a simple and effective way.
SmartRetur’s circular system supports EU regulations such as the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), which sets clear targets for reuse and reduced packaging waste.

Less Waste, Lower Climate Footprint
We’ve developed a circular model that enables 98% reuse of pallets - and it’s measurable. We’ve built systems that extend the lifespan of pallets and maintain high quality throughout their journey. Every pallet that’s reused is a resource saved and an emission source avoided.
Our plastic pallets last 8 times longer than standard wooden pallets and generate approximately 35% less emissions over their lifetime.

Sustainability in Practice
In 2024, we developed climate targets for Scope 1 to 3 and an action plan to achieve them in line with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) methodology. In addition to introducing plastic pallets with a lower climate footprint, SmartRetur’s transport is our largest source of emissions - and therefore our biggest potential for reduction.
Here, we focus on solutions such as route optimization, improving fill rates, and shifting from fossil-fueled trucks to fossil-free trucks for transporting reusable pallets to customers. In 2023, we tested our first electric tractor truck in Norway, and in 2025 we’ll introduce one in Denmark as well.
